Part One: Gingerbread House Displays to teach families about Medication Look A-likes. We have 12 targeted sites to display Gingerbread Houses in locked football cases. One is decorated with medication (OTC) and the other mirrors the decorations with candy. They are on display for families to view at a variety of community locations. The goal is to get families thinking about medication safety and poisoning. All sites will receive medication and poison safety materials and a locked medication box to raffle off for a drawing. We are working with the KU Poison Center for materials and the Pilot Club of Shawnee Mission to create the houses for display and help finance the project. Part two is a Christmas Tree decorated in a Gingerbread House theme and home safety devices to showcase the importance of child proofing. Under the 7-foot tree we will have presents and they include: new bike helmets, car seat, baby gate and more home safety devices. A matching wreath also is being created. The tree is for our local Festival of Tree's and will proceeds benefit at risk families for the Johnson County Christmas Bureau. A set of Gingerbread Houses will also be displayed with the Tree. We will deliver all the houses November 17 and 18th to sites and the tree will be decorated on November 18 and open for viewing and bidding November 19-23rd at the Overland Park Convention Center.
