Event Details

Injuries are the leading cause of death and disability to U.S. children from 1 to 18 years old.

To raise awareness about the significance of injury and advocate for prevention the Harborview Injury Prevention & Research Center (HIPRC) will participate in National Injury Prevention Day on November 18, 2025.

The Harborview Injury Prevention & Research Center (HIPRC) will join with Injury Free Coalition for Kids and other community partners in “Shining a Light” to raise awareness about the prevention of serious childhood injury through education and advocacy. From window locks and car seats to life jackets and safely stored firearms, we can all do our part to keep children safe.

Together with Public Health-Seattle & King County we will share a social media campaign highlighting practices for safe gun storage around children, traffic safety (including but not limited to using car seats and watching for child pedestrians), using lifejackets when in and around water, and other everyday things people can do to keep kids safe.

On Tuesday, November 18th, National Injury Prevention Day 2025 will culminate in hospitals and trauma centers across the nation bathing in green light. HMC hospital towers will be illuminated in green light on Nov 18th.
