Be SMART is a nonpartisan national injury prevention campaign focused on secure firearm storage and child safety. Be SMART educates adults about the importance of, and strategies for, secure firearm storage, as well as how to normalize conversations with other adults (e.g., relatives, parents of your kid's friends) about secure storage to ensure that kids are safe not only in their own homes but also the places they visit, play, babysit, etc. Be SMART has been endorsed by the Tennessee Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and is included as a recommendation in the Tennessee Child Fatality 2024 Annual Report and the Suicide Prevention in Tennessee 2025 Annual Report.
